The Sydney Bus Museum

The Sydney Bus Museum opened its doors to the public in 1986 and is housed in the former Tempe tram depot. It is a not-for-profit community organization and is run largely by volunteers.

It is a working museum dedicated to providing a space for the storage, restoration, display and operation of historic commercial vehicles. It also provides a tangible experience of transport history, offering the public rides on many of these vehicles and contributing their vehicles to community events.  Traditional trade skills are employed to maintain these vehicles and to service old forms of transport technology. Transport is an integral part of our everyday lives and the museum aims to protect this important aspect of our past.

The Sydney Bus Museum has worked hard to expand its collection of vintage buses and trucks for more than 20 years and it now boasts the largest collection of its kind in Australia. The museum contains a large collection of Sydney buses, as well as examples of interstate historic vehicles. The museum contains more than 90 vehicles, dating from the 1920s onwards, as well as associated transport memorabilia and archival material.
